At some point in every captain’s life, the unpleasantries of dealing with their HVAC system come to light; and it’s usually when they are underway and have a generator breakdown. As robust as some generators are, experiencing their downfalls can take all the fun out of being on the open water. Namely, the captain will likely find themselves contorted in the engine room for hours trying to diagnose what has happened. If that sounds at all familiar, it’s time to step into the new way to cool sail boats or yachts.
TMD Marine Air Conditioning
Air Conditioning may be considered a luxury for some, but for those who spend a significant time on their vessels, especially for liveaboards, air conditioning cannot be overstated. The old model of generators have certainly had their place, but we have designed a few models of air conditioning units that do not require a generator.
Our company “lives” in innovation, and we are very passionate about solving the problems boaters often have. We designed a series of units, based on boat owners’ particular needs, to create the comfort a generator offers (at least when it’s working) without the noise, messy maintenance, and breakdowns.
The Technology Behind TMD Marine Units
Our units are efficient because they are based on titanium patented construction that makes them less susceptible to the environment and more efficient overall. At a high cooling capacity, the units can produce 35-degrees Fahrenheit from the diffuser, even in the tropics. Another great feature to our units is their ability to dehumidify the cabin air making it a healthier and more comfortable environment.
The nuts and bolts of these units make efficiency possible, and one of those elements is our inverter air compressor. Our air compressors have a soft start and accelerate digitally. In this compressor, there is a microprocessor that is continuously monitoring the system to prevent breakdowns and can even detect mechanical system stress. A sensor surveys the crankcase oil through optics checking for quality and quantity.
This is all achieved with a digital display that can be controlled from a smartphone. Best part? The unit uses 50% less power/consumption than any other air conditioning unit on the market.
TDM Marine Air Conditioners are Precise
Our air conditioning units are temperature precise due to the technology we’ve created. If different rooms are to have different temperatures, we can do that with the help of our electronic expansion valves. These valves offer 500 different adjustments and can control temperature by one-tenth of a degree.
Another smart, very precise, feature is the inclusion of the infrared smart sensors in our units. These sensors can pick up on temperature changes onboard and prompt the air conditioning unit to react and correct the temperature. This technology includes sensing how the human body responds to the environment so the system can work to keep everyone onboard comfortable.
This is just a sample of what makes our air conditioning units so efficient and unlike anything else on the market. The team of TDM Marine was founded in 2010 by three partners who have been working in mechanical and refrigeration industries for over 30 years. The company is based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, with TDM marine technicians all over the world to serve our clients.
